Rules and Eligibility

The Tilbury Chamber of Commerce proudly hosts this Awards ceremony to recognize the overall success and advancement of responsible business leadership and prosperity within the Tilbury community. All awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony Dinner on April 13, 2019 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Tilbury.

Eligibility

All business award nominees must be an active business located or operating within the area served by the Tilbury Chamber of Commerce. Citizen of the year & Rising Star nominees ‘must’ reside within the area served by the TCC. Businesses may be nominated for any of the Business Excellence Award categories according to the criteria outlined for each award (attached). A business may be nominated for more than one award. Previous award recipients are eligible for re-nomination under the same category after a minimum of (3) years.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to nominate themselves, or you may nominate any qualified business or individual for any of the award categories. The nominator should ensure the nominee would show a willingness to participate. Nominees do not need to be members of the Tilbury Chamber of Commerce. Sponsors and their employees are eligible for nominations in any category other than the one they are sponsoring.

ALL NOMINATION FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY: MARCH 1ST, 2019.

All nominations will be treated as ‘Commercial-in-Confidence’ and used only for the purpose of determining eligibility for Awards. All nominations will be destroyed at the conclusion of the Awards assessment process. The Chamber reserves the right to request two letters of reference from a third party for the nominees that are short listed for an award category by the judging panel. The nominee may furnish one of these letters if they did not submit the original nomination form.

Judging

An independent judging panel comprised of local community members will complete the judging of the finalists in each award category. No member of the judging panel shall have direct familial or financial involvement with any of the finalists selected. The judging panel will complete its deliberations and finalists will be selected based upon who best adheres to the eligibility criteria and the overall goals of recognizing business excellence. The decisions of the judges are final. All nominees are evaluated based on their respective criteria as well as the following:

*Business Leadership & Entrepreneurship
*Technological Achievement & Product Innovation
*Community Contributions & Involvement
*Environmental Leadership
*Customer Relations (customer service & reliability)
*Sales and Market Growth
*Employee Welfare (including increased employment, employee retention and growth)

Only three (3) finalists for each category will be selected for the award. All finalists will be notified by the TCC three (3) weeks prior to the Event.

Category Descriptions

Citizen of the Year:

This award honours a citizen who has consistently demonstrated excellence in professional and community leadership. This individual is recognized for contributions above and beyond their profession or activities of an elected office, who volunteers for the benefit of the general public in our community. This individual has made or is making, significant contributions to the welfare of the community through involvement and participation for community betterment.

Agricultural Excellence:

This award honours an individual or family which demonstrates excellence in farm operations and agri-business. This recipient has proven to be pro-active with environmental conscious and conservation practices and has also shown leadership and involvement in the agricultural community.

Industry & Manufacturing Achievement:

The recipient should be able to demonstrate that they have designed, implemented and managed an effective infrastructure spanning all business and manufacturing processes to result in significant and sustainable success. They must also possess commendable achievements in the environmental, health and safety practices.

Business of the Year:

This award is to honour a business which demonstrates success in company growth including sales, profitability, growth prospects, employment creation and market acceptance. The business must also have exemplary customer service, community involvement, innovative products or service, and a true commitment to the economic support of the Tilbury business community and its people.

Retail Excellence:

This award is open to all businesses whose majority of revenues come from either retail or wholesale activities. Retailers who provide exceptional and unique customer offerings as well as demonstrate their individuality and innovation in merchandising, range of products, services and a true understanding of their customers needs within the community.

Service Industry Excellence:

This award is open to all businesses in the professional services sector that can demonstrate excellence in business practice across the full range of their activities and provides exemplary customer service.

Business Beautification:

Any storefront business within the community who renovated/remodeled/established the physical environment of their property to promote Tilbury as the best place to shop, stop, and explore. Such beautification project may include, but not limited to, new facade, awning, signage, and landscaping.

Rising Star:

This award recognizes a young professional/entrepreneur who is ‘on the rise’. Nominees must be 30 years of age and under and will demonstrate a proven commitment to our community through outstanding scholarship and achievements. They must show exemplary leadership and continued community involvement. The recipient must demonstrate innovative thinking, commitment to making a difference, ability to engage and inspire others, and must act as a positive role model to his/her peers and colleagues. In addition, the recipient will demonstrate significant growth potential as a future leader in our community.
